This site exists to provide friends and family of Steve Campbell with updates on his recovery since suffering a severely broken neck on Saturday, August 14, 2010. This site also allows friends and family the opportunity to support and encourage Steve on his journey through rehabilitation and ultimately a full recovery. A donation page exists on this site to allow monetary donations to assist Steve and family with expenses related to the accident, hospitalization and his recovery.

Steve was injured while riding his BMX bike in Hollywood on Saturday, August 14, 2010. He and a group of friends were participating in a fun, parade-like event that took them down Sunset Blvd. During the ride Steve suffered a fall resulting in breaks to the C6 and C7 vertebrae in his neck and heavy trauma to his spinal cord. He was transported to Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and admitted to the Neuro ICU ward.

In the days following the accident, Steve has undergone two major surgeries (August 15 and August 17) to stabilize the neck and minimize trauma to the spinal cord. He contracted a serious case of pneumonia following the second surgery. The combination of injury, surgery and pneumonia has kept him from being able to breathe without the assistance of a breathing tube and ventilator.

A tracheotomy was performed on August 24 to assist Steve’s breathing and help him better fight the pneumonia. Steve no longer has the breathing tube but still relies on the assistance of a ventilator for breathing.

Steve was moved to Kaiser Sunset Hospital in Los Angeles on Thursday, August 26. Steve is in the Neuro ICU ward of the hospital.

Your continual prayers and positive thoughts for a full recovery are needed and greatly appreciated. We are confident Steve will amaze us all.

With Gratitude,

Friends and Family of Steve Campbell
